One of my memories as a kid is hiding from my mom so that I could keep reading (and so that I could get out of my chores). At one point, I remember climbing on the roof of our house, just so I could read my book in peace! I traveled to some exotic, fictional lands, met dynamic and interesting characters, and escaped from the boredom that often accompanies summer vacation through these books. This summer, I am going to read Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. I purchased it several months ago in a book sale because I had heard that it was good. When we come back to school, I will let you know what I thought! Comment below with the book you plan on reading! Additionally, click here for the instructions for both parts of your summer assignment. Please let me know if you have any questions! Happy reading! Mrs. McDowell

Congratulations on finishing Quarter 1! As we move further into our academic school year, I want to clarify my classroom procedure for make up work. If you do not turn in an assignment when it is due, I consider it late. To turn in late assignments, you must schedule a time to meet with me either before school, at lunch, or after school. We will meet for about 10-15 minutes to discuss the concept or standard being practiced on that assignment. We will also discuss strategies for turning your work in on time in the future and getting help when you need it in class. At the end of our discussion, I will sign a make-up work slip and attach it to your late assignment. Then, I will grade the work you are turning in and let you know how it impacts your class grade. As we begin the second quarter of school, let's recommit to academic excellence. Let's practice good college-going habits: work actively during class time, obtain help when you need it, submit assignments in a timely manner, and communicate openly with your teacher when problems arise. Thank you for your efforts in first quarter. Now, enjoy your fall break! Mrs. McDowell |
