A huge controversy in America’s favorite sports is whether we should “cross the color line”, Basically allow negroes and other colored people play baseball; Professionally. Since the beginning of professional baseball, baseball has been a white only sport. So after the civil rights act and all those dreadful marches segregation is somewhat dead. Negroes have as much rights as you as well as me.

I agree with your view of crossing the color line because times like this need change, Also, because they're are any people like Jackie who can contribute more to the world than just sports and they should be given the chance.

There’s never been a time in which so much riding on an athlete in surroundings so hostile as now, where racial discrimination is legal and brutally enforced, and where blacks who challenged it are jailed, beaten or lynched. (http://articles.latimes.com/2012/feb/27/opinion/la-oe-lamb-jackie-robinson-20120227) Though Jackie, himself, expects not trouble. He said he was "thrilled and it's what I've been waiting for." Rickey, in answer to a query, declared he did not expect trouble from other players, because of Robinson. "We are all agreed," he said, "that Jackie is ready for the chance." (http://www.nytimes.com/learning/general/onthisday/big/0410.html) This isn’t only a chance for Jackie. This is a chance for all people of color, all people of differences. This is an opportunity. I say, if the man can play baseball, that’s all the matters. I’m eager to see more talented players regardless of race be integrated into baseball and other sports. This is truly history in the making.

I believe the integration of BaseBall is a bad thing for the sport of BaseBall and America. If the black man can play Baseball just as good as the white man then so be it. Let us not segregate the African Americans from this athletic event. It makes the sport less boring and more entertaining if we not only get more skilled players, but it makes more unique as we are not seeing the same people or people that look like each other. As the Op Ed by Popular Demand: Jackie Robinson and Other Baseball Highlights says “By the 1940s, organized baseball had been racially segregated for many years. The black press and some of their white colleagues had long campaigned for the integration of baseball.” https://www.loc.gov/collections/jackie-robinson-baseball/articles-and-essays/baseball-the-color-line-and-jackie-robinson/1940-to-1946/. If they have been campaigning for a while about debanning the integration of BaseBall then I believe we should remove it by this point.

I have just finished reading the Op-Ed you wrote on Jackie Robinson published in early April. I want to tell you how much I appreciated your clearly written and thought-provoking Op-Ed. While much has been written on this topic, your Op-Ed expresses both the positive and negative aspects of this important topic, without taking an emotional stance on either side of the issue. It is very prominent to what your argument is on this topic. Thank you for your thorough research and clear writing. I hope to see more creative writing from you in the near future.

Today is the first day of change with the baseball league allowing African-American to play pro-baseball. Jackie Robinson would be the first and only baseball player to break the color line, it’s a very brave move to make being in the public eye. I can only imagine how tough it’s been for major leagues and other African-American pro-baseball players to adjust to the new changes. However , I believe these new changes will have a very positive impact on not only baseball but in the world as well. Economic and complex factors who also contributed to segregated baseball are probably upset about the situation but in the long run this will bring many more opportunities for everyone.

My thoughts on integrating baseball and “crossing the color line” is why did it take so long for them to have their first African American baseball player? Major League Baseball was established in 1869 and they’re barely signing the first African American player (Jackie Robinson) in 1945. This was just 2 years ago and congrats to him for being signed and hopefully no this has opened up other teams to sign other African Americans also not make other African Americans afraid to go after what they want. I support this and I know others that support this too, hopefully this year 1947 will have some big changes around here.

There is new news coming into the news that has come up. This has grabbed my attention with the major league having their first african american baseball player. The player is named jackie robertson and he is playing for the “Brooklyn Dodgers” this has been let happen by the manager Branch Rickey. This year of 1947 is the most controversial period that will happen in all of baseball. I think this will make the baseball game boom. This will boom because all the people that like the really good people from the “negro league” will start to buy tickets along the African american people that support African Americans.”The first black baseball player to cross the "color line" would be subjected to intense public scrutiny, and Rickey knew that the player would have to be more than a talented athlete to succeed.”

The sport of baseball, should be a sport that everyone can enjoy and play. I disagree with the segregation of sports teams, and believe that sports should be the start of the Civil Rights fight. Baseball is a national sport and many love to play the game, by everyone I mean whites and negroes, and everyone should be given the chance to play in the big league. There is no point in the color line when it comes to sports, Jackie Robinson has proven this true. Robinson had a rough time really putting himself out there but his dream finally came true and he now plays for the Dodgers.

Recently, Jackie Robinson signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers, making him the “the first Negro to achieve major-league baseball status in modern times.” Due to this decision, “the Jim Crow policies of baseball changed forever.” This breaking of the color line barrier was extremely necessary to the prosperity of baseball and major league baseball teams owners. With having a negro player now or even negro players in the future, baseball games will bring more audience because the people in black communities will be more reluctant to watch it. Just imagine how massive the black population is and how much profit the major leagues could gain. Furthermore, there are so many black players that were talented that have been neglected over the years because of their skin color. If Jackie Robinson was not recruited, the major league would miss a chance at having an amazing player who “where he stole 40 bases and was the best defensive second baseman” in the triple A minor league. It is time for us to open our eyes and make the major league the best that it can be. A league where we offer fascinating baseball games.

Integrated baseball is one of the best changes in the 1970’s. Jackie Robinson was signed by Branch Rickey in 1945, to play for the Dodgers. He was the first African American to play in the Major League baseball. I think that its is about time some changes were made around here. It is extremely unfortunate that people were separated by their color. It is very unfair that one race was treated with more superiority and humanity while african americans were dehumanized and treated extremely poor.I congratulate Jackie Robinson for accomplishing something so great that is our first stepping stone to a new world.

The recent integration of baseball has been perceived by the public in widely different ways. However, I feel that it’s an important step in gaining rights for people of color, and I proudly accept the change. I feel that the change would make baseball more entertaining to watch, especially for people like me who appreciate diversity. Integrating baseball would not only be a milestone for Negroes, but it would be a milestone for people of all color. We never know what a person is capable of, and this new Negro, Jackie Robinson, might just take the Dodgers to the World Series! He would be the first person of color to cross the color line, and he seems to be the type to do so perfectly. All in all, I feel the integration of colored people into baseball would be an important milestone for people of all age, race, and color.

My opinion in the meaning in “Crossing the color line” is that there shouldn’t be a line in the first place. I think that segregating a sport is unfair and inhuman. Judging a person by just their color is unfair because the people didn’t pick their color they had no choice in the matter, but there is many people in the world that acknowledge that their color is part of them. Right now we should stop segregating and have peace with each other. “Crossing the color line” is just a way to split everyone apart and this would cause war. One example that we should follow is Jackie Robertson he has broken the “color line” his efforts in become a “black” to join the major leagues. In the document “Breaking the color line” it talks about how Jackie Robertson is the right person to break the line. He is also a person who will stand tall to all the negative words when he is playing.

Jackie Robinson’s entry to the Dodgers’ ranks surprised quite a few people, angered a few more, yet also brought hope to some people as well. Being an African American, the surprise came from the very first negro in a non-negro specific team. While this does change quite a bit, Jackie seems to be quite a good player with an interesting backstory. At the University of California, he became well known for his ability at sports all around and, later on, became a lieutenant in his military service before signed into a Montreal contract. He was then led into the position he finds himself in now. An interesting thing is that there seems to be a good amount of people that support him, especially with those “I’m for Robinson” buttons are going around. While not everyone has the same opinion as to whether this man should even be in this team or not, it seems to many that Jackie has a bright future ahead of him.

I think African Americans crossing the color line in baseball for baseball integration is perfectly fine. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to join Major League Baseball. “October 23, 1945, Jackie Robinson officially signed the contract. Rickey soon put other black players under contract, but the spotlight stayed on Robinson.” It was difficult for him and Caucasians hated him but he did not only African Americans a favor but also all American minorities. He was part of the movement against segregation and racism along with people like Martin Luther King Jr. He did a courageous favor for minorities in baseball, the Civil Rights Movement, and America as a whole.

Organized baseball has been segregated for many years. Many Negroes have waited for this day and all I have to say is it’s about time! We are finally breaking the color line! I couldn’t be happier for these ball players. They are finally getting the chance to live their dream and show the country what they got. We owe it all to the Brooklyn Dodgers who broke the color line by signing infielder Jackie Roosevelt Robinson. According to Louis Effrat, Jackie Robinson “had proved his right o the opportunity by his extraordinary work in the AAA minor league”. Effrat said that ‘several thousand Negroes were in the stands at yesterday's exhibition. When Robinson appeared for batting practice, he drew a warm and pleasant reception.” As you can see not only Negro ballplayers are thrilled about breaking the color line but so are thousand of friends and families as well. Now young Negro boys dream of the possibility of playing for the major league just like their heroes.

I think the integration of African Americans into American (and predominantly white) baseball leagues was a major turning point for the Civil Rights Movement. The integration was sparked after African American involvement in the World War Two. “By the 1940s, organized baseball had been racially segregated for many years. The black press and some of their white colleagues had long campaigned for the integration of baseball. Wendell Smith of The Pittsburgh Courier was especially vocal. World War II experiences prompted more people to question segregation practices” as said by the Library of Congress in their online article, ‘Breaking the Color Line’.

In life, you have to take risks to discover new things. I believe that bringing a negro ballplayer to the majors would be an excellent experience, it would bring new talent and who knows, maybe even attract more viewers. This could be a step towards making a great new discovery in the world of baseball. I think this is also a step towards ending segregation in this country. Bringing a negro ballplayer to baseball will most likely encourage other sports to do the same. Baseball will be revolutionized with the bringing of negro players. This may be hard to accept, but really take it into consideration and think of the positive things that it’ll bring.

Integration in baseball was a pretty risky deal. The fact that “crossing the color line” would cause so many problems doesn’t seem like a good idea, luck just played a good part. I think if integration in baseball could cause “Major League owners to lose significant rental revenue” and “Negro Leagues to lose their livelihood” then the risk may not have been worth it. (www.loc.gov) When the Major League and the Negro League signed that contract and picked Jackie Robinson they were lucky because even though he was an outstanding player, they still didn’t know what would happen. But I’m also glad they wanted to risk their teams and take a chance to create integration it shows they were confident that they could integrate baseball and they did. So kudos to them.

A 28- year old African American male, Jackie Robinson changed Baseball history… Jackie Robinson will be with the Brooklyn Dodgers as of tomorrow. We asked him how he feel and this what he said “thrilled and it what I’ve been waiting for.” Over the years African Americans were not allowed to be a team with major league and they had their own league “Negro League.” But Jackie Robinson change that role. Is Baseball changing into something good or something bad? What do you think? Should Baseball allow this or should we put a stop? Or should we be proud that they are finally making a stand?

Such a large change to the game of baseball this year due to the official sign of the first african american baseball player Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers this is a big moment is baseball history, the Dodgers purchase Jackie Robinson's contract from the Montreal Royals to bring him over to play in the major leagues there has been some backlash for letting a negro play in the league but i think he has potential to shake things up a bit, but i can't say the same for the players all across the country they are outraged that a negro is going to play on their fields and against other teams.

In 1947 the Dodgers purchased Jackie Robinson and in which he was the first ever African American baseball player to play in the majors. But when Robinson was purchased it wasn’t all happiness, due to the fact that when he came to the club he faced many challenges like for example some Dodgers fans didn’t want to see him play at all. Also some of his fellow teammates didn’t want to play with him.Robinson faced all these challenges to prove a point that he broke part of the racial barrier.Although Robinson faced many other challenges while getting where he is now like for example “Robinson faced a court martial for refusing to obey an order to move to the back of a bus.”I think that this wasn’t right because this segregated a race in whole and they just saw them for their skin not for their abilities.

However , in the 1940's " organized baseball had been racially segregated for many years " in my opinion I feel that Branch Rickey ( Brooklyn Dodgers manager ) allowing and or accepting Jackie Robertson was a good idea. Sports should not be apart of segregation , anyone who loves and or wants to play this sport or any sport should be allowed to do so meaning all races. I congratulate Jackie Robertson for being the first to step out knowing it was going to be a tough road ahead. This is just a start into a new world , all colors matter. No matter what we shouldn't be titled to do only "this and that" based on who and what we are.

It’s about time, today out of all days, now America decides to make a change? Maybe this is the change we all needed to end segregation once and for all. Usually you picture baseball as an all white sport but not today in the year of 1947. Ever since “Jackie Robinson became the first negro to achieve major-league baseball status in modern times. “ According to (http://www.nytimes.com/learning/general/onthisday/big/0410.html), it even says, “it was nevertheless a history-making day for the well-proportioned lad,” and their right too. It is a “history-making day.” Since he is the first “negro to achieve major-league baseball status in modern times,” he is an inspiration to all African Americans. He sets an example to all African Americans everywhere and what I think is going to happen next is that segregation will finally end and there will be no discrimination against white people and African Americans. That’s what touched me the most. Just the way he sets an example to everyone everywhere because in my opinion separating people just because of their skin color is just wrong and that ends today.

Baseball should not be based on skin color but how good we are. We are facing integration in this sport which is uncalled for. A native of Georgia, Robinson won fame in baseball, football, basketball and track at the University of California at Los Angeles before entering the armed service as a private. Jackie Robinson was the “first negro” that was contracted to a major league team which was very strange to us people because his skin color is different. Robinson seems to be very active and we should see how the season goes before criticizing him. Remember not to judge a book by it’s cover because he can probably be good if the Dodgers are having him play for their team.

I believe that baseball teams should be integrated and I am not the only one. According to the article “Breaking the Color Line: 1940 to 1946, many baseball team owners were for integration because they “saw the addition of black players as a way to attract larger white as well as black audiences and sell more tickets.” Meaning that they believed that if they had black players on their team, it would broaden the scope of people who went to the games, thus resulting in them earning more money and being more successful. The same article states how if they integrated baseball teams then “ the player would have to be more than a talented athlete to succeed. He would also have to be a strong person who could agree to avoid open confrontation when subjected to hostility and insults, at least for a few years.” So they knew that whoever they chose to be the first black player, had to be tough and be able to put up with all the people who were against it.

Today is a start for a better tomorrow. Jackie Robinson was the first “player who would break the color line”, he became the “first negro to achieve major-league baseball status in modern times”. This contract is one of the many more to come, Jackie Robinson was signed into the Dodgers, he helped break the color line. 1947 will be a remarkable year for baseball history, it will be the year that marks the moment that color is no longer seen as a factor to whether you can play or not. I think this will inspire a lot of young African American kids with a dream of one day playing on the major leagues, they will no longer fear rejection just for the color of their skin.

Baseball is known as “America’s pastime,” Which means you have to include all Americans no matter what race or skin color. This does not mean create another league for the other races, but to integrate them with all of the other players into one Major Baseball League. The person responsible for this was Rickey. “Rickey joined the Dodgers and quietly began plans to bring black players to the team.” The player he would bring in to become the first African American in the MLB was Jackie Robinson. “Robinson officially broke the major league color line when he put on a Dodgers uniform, number 42, in April 1947.”

I think “Crossing the color line” shouldn’t be a thing in the first place because that’s just ignorant, there is probably many talented African Americans, that couldn’t play professionally because of their skin color, It’s good they finally crossed it though because now many talented players can get their chance to show off their skills anyone that likes this sport should be allowed to play,I’m not a huge fan of the sport myself but people who are should be given the chance to play, and that goes for all the sports not just baseball , If African Americans like football ,soccer or any sport they should be allowed to play.

I think it was a good idea to hire Jackie Robertson for the dodgers baseball team. When he got hired someone was surprised because everyone knew sooner or later the team was going to hire him. Robertson had a tough time getting along with the rest of his teammates because most of them were from the south and were white. Even though it was a bit hard to get in the team he said he was "thrilled and it's what I've been waiting for." (Effrat) thousands of african americans were in the stand yesterday watching Robertson practice batting. But everyone is still waiting for what position Roberson will be playing. Integration is wrong because anyone should be able to join in any sport no matter their color. It's a good start for a change in the baseball ways because it gives better opportunities to people that play better and to people with different color. Jackie robertson a 28-year old infielder yesterday had became the first negro to achieve the major-league baseball status in modern times. “In addition to racial intolerance, economic and other complex factors contributed to segregation in baseball”. Jackie robertson made a major impact in the baseball leagues he did something that other people would never have the chance to do he made people change their minds about not having color people playing in the major leagues.

Organized baseball has been racially segregated for a while now. Jackie Robinson, 28-year-old infielder has become the first Negro to cross the color line and achieve the allowing of African American’s to play pro-baseball. I am glad that Robinson has been able to achieve this because baseball should be a sport everyone should enjoy. This must have been tough for many negroes wanting to be able to play with segregation especially for Robinson who was able to do all of this in the public eye. “Integration over Segregation” seems to be the talk of the town since Jackie Robinson’s entrance into the major leagues. More-so the idea of adopting players from “Negro Leagues” into their own teams if they perform well. Sure, this is good for the player and new team, but what exactly do the players on the new team think of this? “We all agreed that Jackie was ready for the chance” was what Ricky, Major League executive had to say. The public at the stadium seems to share this positive opinion as well, as when Robinson showed up to bat, he was met with pleasant reception.

i think that them doing this is way cool because when you really think about it, most history has been made by "blacks" and thats in every type of thing there is out there. Sports history especially has a load of hall of famers that are black. Some of the best are black.

Baseball is known as one of America's greatest sports but recently breaking the color line has made it even better. Jackie Robinson joined the Dodgers in the Major League. Crossing the color line is one of the best things that could happen for baseball. Not only is it good for taking steps closer to equality but also good for baseball. New men are allowed to play and that means new skills and records which many people are excited for. This could be the best decision that baseball and the world needs. It'll only open more doors to baseball and other opportunities.

Today history was made as the Dodgers purchase Jackie Robinson having made Robinson the First Negro in Modern Major League Baseball. This set into effect of the Jim Crow policies being changed to give more freedom of Africans in sports. As there had been a large deal about allowing Africans to play in one of the most enjoyable American sport. Nevertheless the deal was no shock for fans since he had “stole 40 bases and was the best defensive second baseman” (The New York Times) which led to how he got his deal from the Royals. So this was a major step in allowing Negroes to play the sport although many of the Royal fans anticipated that Robinson was gonna get a contract.
